Christina Ricci, who played the iconic role of Wednesday Addams in the film The Addams Family, is confirmed to be joining the cast of the upcoming series Wednesday.
Three decades since the premiere of The Addams Family (1991), Netflix has announced that they will be coming up with a spin-off series, based on Wednesday Addams herself. And who’d be the perfect cast to join this series other than the actress who portrayed Wednesday Addams and made her a pop culture icon? On March 22, 2022, it was announced that the magnificent Christina Ricci will be joining the cast of Wednesday as a new and regular character in the series.
While obviously Christina Ricci will not be playing her original role as Wednesday, and definitely not an older version of her previous character, her involvement brings much more attention to the upcoming show as it brings a sentimental note to the fans of The Addams Family movies. The new Wednesday Addams will be played by the rising young actress, Jenna Ortega, who has recently showcased her acting skills in thriller and horror shows, such as in season 2 of You (2018) and the new movie Scream (2022).
Directed by Tim Burton, Wednesday is a coming-of-age horror-comedy series that tells the story of a young teenage Wednesday Addams and her misadventures as she attends the very unique school called Nevermore Academy. Filled with mystery and supernatural elements, the limited series will have 8 episodes and will follow Wednesday as she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability while trying to begin her new chapter of life.
While the details of Christina Ricci’s character in the series are still being kept confidential to further anticipate the excitement of the waiting fans, it’s amazing to see how Christina Ricci will become part of a show that was based on her character and will be in the same frame as the new Wednesday Addams of this generation.
