Julie Andrews who played Queen Clarisse Renaldi said, “There’s talk about it…”
Last year, Princess Diaries director Garry Marshall (who also directed Pretty Woman, Runaway Bride, New Year’s Eve, and Valentine’s Day) told People that he and Anne Hathaway talked about doing “Princess Diaries 3 in Manhattan.” But at that time, Anne was pregnant and Marshall said they might be doing the movie after she gives birth.
However in July last year, at the age of 81, Marshall died due to complications from pneumonia following a stroke — making the idea of Princess Diaries 3 happening more complicated and unsure.
Recently in February, while Julie Andrews was promoting her new Netflix show “Julie’s Greenroom,” she told BuzzFeed News that there’s been a talk about pursuing the film in honor of Garry Marshall, and that she and Anne Hathaway would both be willing and happy to do it.
“I think we might do it in honor of him. Annie had an idea that she wanted to pursue about it, and I’m all for it, so if she’d like to…” she added.
But to avoid getting people’s hopes up, Andrews clarified that movie-making takes a while and she’s “not sure what the status is right now.” Hathaway’s rep also said that it is “way too premature to discuss this project.”
Still, if it ever happens, we’re pretty stoked for Princess Diaries 3!
Yaaaas, Queen Amelia Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi!
