With sugar, spice, and everything nice, along with a little bit of Chemical X, Professor Utonium created Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup — the crime-fighting trio known as The Powerpuff Girls. Together, the Powerpuff Girls use their powers to defeat evil and save the day for the city of Townsville.
Since the late 1990s, the Cartoon Network series showed us that little girls can be tough, powerful, and have the compassion to help their community. This month, things will change (and hopefully for the better) as the trio adds a fourth member who’ll help them kick some ass!
Cartoon Network recently announced that the fourth Powerpuff Girl will be revealed in the upcoming The Powerpuff Girls: Power of Four, a five-part movie series that will premiere in the US on September 17 at 5:30 pm.

People are commending the show for trying to make the characters more diverse with a black heroine. The trio is known to be color-coordinated, with red-haired Blossom in a red suit, brunette Buttercup in green, and blonde Bubbles in blue. The fourth Powerpuff Girl, based on a preview from a Russian Cartoon Network promo, seems to be in purple with turquoise hair.

Some are saying that while having a new character is refreshing and exciting, they’re confused with the character’s look — why does she have turquoise hair instead of black puffy hair like a true black woman?

The fourth Powerpuff Girl looks like one of those cringey PPG OCs you see on DeviantArt. pic.twitter.com/wDG45nMLW7

Others are calling out Cartoon Network for forgetting that Powerpuff Girls already HAD a fourth member called “Bunny.” Bunny appeared in the episode “Twisted Sisters” where she was created by Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup in Professor Utonium’s lab. The trio didn’t use the right amount of ingredients so Bunny ended up exploding and most of us still can’t get over it. #NeverForget

Bunny will still be the official fourth member for some, but we’re still excited to see how the new Powerpuff Girls roster will turn out — and defeat the forces of evil and save the day before bedtime!
