Beyoncé, Billie Eilish & Kristen Stewart become first-time Oscar nominees

After a long wait, the nominations for the 2022 Academy Awards are officially in, unveiling plenty of first-time Oscar nominees who are in line to win the prestigious award, including Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, and Kristen Stewart, among many others.

Multi-award-winning artist Beyoncé earned her first-ever Oscar nomination for her and Dixson’s song ‘Be Alive’ featured in Reinaldo Marcus Green’s 2021 biopic King Richard. Beyoncé’s ‘Be Alive’ is nominated in the Best Original Song category.

Competing against Beyoncé, Billie Eilish is also nominated in the same category along with her brother Finneas O’ Connell for their song ‘No Time to Die,’ the theme song for Daniel Craig’s film of the same name. Beyoncé and Eilish will compete against Lin-Manuel Miranda’s ‘Dos Oruguitas’ from Encanto, Van Morrison’s ‘Down to Joy’ from Belfast, and Diane Warren’s ‘Somehow You Do’ from Four Good Days.

Former Twilight star Kristen Stewart also received her first nomination in the Best Actress category for portraying Princess Diana in Pablo Larrain’s Spencer. She will go up against veterans Jessica Chastain for The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Olivia Colman for The Lost Daughter, Penélope Cruz for Parallel Mothers, and Nicole Kidman for Being the Ricardos.

Stewart has been previously nominated for her role as Princess Diana in the same category at this year’s Critics Choice Awards and Golden Globe Awards.

There are also four first-time nominees in the Best Supporting Actress category: Ariana DeBose for West Side Story, Aunjanue Ellis for King Richard, Jessie Buckley for The Lost Daughter, and Kirsten Dunst for The Power of the Dog. These actresses will go up against Dame Judi Dench for Belfast.

The Best Supporting Actor is also home to four first-time nominees, namely Kodi Smit-McPhee and Jesse Plemons for The Power of the Dog, Troy Kotsur for CODA, and Ciarán Hinds for Belfast. The four newcomers will compete against J.K. Simmons for Being the Ricardos.

The nominations for the 2022 Academy Awards were announced on February 8 during a YouTube livestream. The Power of the Dog led this year’s nominations, earning 12 nods including the categories of Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Score. See the full 2022 Academy Awards nominees here.

The 2022 Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on March 27 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.
