IEshikawa 16 goes aesthetic

This year, UP CIEM presents a brand new IEshikawa that is not like any other national Industrial Engineering Summit. IEshikawa 16 presents Kalon: Transcending Engineering through Aesthetics. With its theme, this year’s virtual installment aims to focus on the arts side of industrial engineering by showing that the Industrial Engineers can go beyond structure and models and delve into something that can be considered as a form of art.

IEshikawa is an annual nationwide Industrial Engineering event offered by University of the Philippines Circle of Industrial Engineering Majors (UP CIEM). Serving as an alternative avenue for continuous growth and learning, IEshikawa aims to harness the knowledge and aptitudes of IE students and apply these skills to provide service to the IE community. Throughout the years, this event has produced high-quality event programs and workshops that exhibit and promote the true spirit of Industrial Engineering.

Some of these year’s events to look forward to in IEshikawa 16 are workshops, plenary talks, and the career fair! Other than these, the following are also three major events to watch out for:

  1. The IExplore: Case Study Competition, in partnership with LF Logistics, aims to provide the Industrial Engineering students an opportunity to showcase their skills, their knowledge of IE concepts, and their ability to maximize these learnings through application.
  2. The IEnnovate: Design Sprint Hackathon is a new competition of IEshikawa in partnership with Ask Lex Philippines Academy. It strives to test the creativity and wit of the participants by having them propose a design for the given situation and/or specification in a fast-paced and competitive environment.
  3. And the IExperience: Ambassador Program selects a lucky few from numerous applicants to have an opportunity to serve and represent the Industrial Engineering community with the opportunity to witness the behind-the-scenes preparations of the event. They also have the privilege of attending a leadership workshop exclusive to event ambassadors.

This recent installment is especially focused on the artists because in the modern period, different artistic trends emerge as society strives for continuous improvement such as those tackled in human factors, ergonomics, and product and layout design in the light of modern national and global trends. The fast-paced flow of modernization must motivate IEs to aim for innovation and highly functional designs while transcending norms and boundaries.

Explore the beauty of Industrial Engineering! Dive into knowing the intersection of beauty and utility in IEshikawa 16 Kalon: Transcending Engineering with Aesthetics. #IEshikawa 16 #TranscendAesthetically
