‘Miraculous’ creator Thomas Astruc says ‘Totally Spies!’ is getting a new season

2022 seems to be off to a good start in the animation department. Aside from a bunch of highly-anticipated anime releasing this year, it looks like an old animated series is also making a comeback: Totally Spies!.

Friends, this is not a drill: a new season of Totally Spies! is reportedly in development.

Thomas Astruc, creator of the popular French animated series Miraculous Ladybug, announced the news in a tweet on Sunday, January 9.

“I don’t know if it’s already [well-known], all over [the] internet or what but I’ve just learned that… THERE’S A NEW SEASON OF TOTALLY SPIES IN THE MAKING! Here we goo! Here we gooooooo!” Astruc wrote.

Totally Spies! follows the adventures of Sam, Alex and Clover, three high school girls in Beverly Hills, California, who live double lives as spies working for the World Organization of Human Protection (W.O.O.H.P. for short). The series first aired in 2001, stopping at the 6th season in 2013. Now, almost a whole decade since the last season ended, our three badass spies are making a comeback and we are here for it.

Fans of the series have expressed their excitement over the news that Totally Spies! is coming back with a new season. Some fans said they’re relieved that the series is getting a new season and not a live-action adaptation.

Some wondered if Astruc is taking part in the development of the new season, as he was the former storyboard coordinator for the animated series. One fan reached out to Astruc on Twitter and asked him about it, and he responded that he will not be involved in the project, but it “makes [him] very happy.” He also said that the upcoming season “should be even better” since animation technologies have improved over the years.

No official release date has been announced yet for the new season. In the meantime, if you want to catch up on the spies’ adventures or re-watch them in preparation for the new season, you can watch the previous seasons over on YouTube.
