Gal Gadot will be the Evil Queen in Disney’s live-action Snow White movie

Gal Gadot is reportedly joining the cast of Disney’s live-action adaptation for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The Wonder Woman star is in talks to portray the Evil Queen, starring opposite Rachel Zegler, who is set to play as the fair princess Snow White.

Gadot is primarily known for her superheroine role in DC’s Wonder Woman, so it will be interesting to see how the actress will portray a wicked character like the Evil Queen.

Based on the Brothers Grimm fairytale, Snow White is the story of a princess living in a castle with the Evil Queen, her vain stepmother. The Evil Queen asks the Magic Mirror the famous question, “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?” The Magic Mirror replies that the queen’s stepdaughter Snow White is the fairest.

Envious of Snow White’s beauty, the stepmother plots to take the princess’ life. After fleeing from the castle, Snow White befriends seven dwarfs who let her stay at their cottage in the woods. The Evil Queen eventually finds the princess again and tricks her into eating a poisoned apple. Snow White is revived with a kiss from her true love, the Prince, and they live happily ever after.

The live-action adaptation will be directed by Marc Webb, who is known for directing The Amazing Spider-Man films starring Andrew Garfield and 500 Days of Summer. Marc Platt will be producer for the film, while songwriting duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are in charge of writing new music for the upcoming film.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was Disney’s first animated feature, released in 1937. Many years later, Disney is working on a live-action adaptation for it. The live-action adaptation has been in the works since 2016, and production is expected to start in 2022.

Aside from Snow White, Disney also has other live-action adaptations lined up — The Little Mermaid, with Halle Bailey playing as the mermaid Ariel, Pinocchio with Tom Hanks, and Lilo and Stitch, which will be directed by Jon M. Chu.
