Joseph Gordon-Levitt admits Tom in ‘(500) Days of Summer’ is the real villain

In the not so distant past, we all fell in love with the unrequited love story of Tom and Summer in (500) Days of Summer.

When we were younger and still full of idealism, we all thought Summer was super douchey for not returning Tom’s undying love for her, when in fact, she did made it clear in the beginning that she was not looking for a serious relationship.

But guess what, someone had to say the hard truth about who the real villain is in the story, and it was none other than Tom himself, who was portrayed by Hollywood actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Gordon-Levitt retweeted a recent post from Twitter user @chrissymeds which shows a “movie villain, actual villain” meme where Summer is the movie villain, and Tom is the actual villain, with the caption: “I approve this message.”

Years after its first release, the debate is finally put to rest. And it just goes to show that while unrequited love may seem romantic and heroic, it’s never okay to coerce someone into something they don’t want.
