Storm chaser captures rare sighting of a rainbow and lightning together

Tubular clouds formation, moonbows (lunar rainbows), volcanic lightning are some of the mind-blowing weather phenomena that we have witnessed over the years from different countries in the world. More often than not, these rare events are “strange but fascinating” because even meteorologists have admitted to seeing such occurrences for the first time.

Recently, nature surprised the residents of Idaho, United States with an unexpected appearance of a lightning bolt striking next to a rainbow during a thunderstorm last week.

According to Daily Mail Online, this rare phenomenon happened in Lewiston-Clarkson Valley and was recorded by storm chaser Jake Heitman.

The online news site uploaded a video footage that shows a cloudy evening sky with strikes of lightning across the rainbow. In an interview with Daily Mail Online, Heitman set up his camera in less than 30 seconds and coincidentally captured this rare weather anomaly.

“I have never seen anything like this before, a rainbow with lightning originating in the center of the rainbow! Doesn’t get better than that!” said Heitman.

Online users believed that the weather display was a “Mother Nature’s wonder” and even described the sight as “beautiful and scary”.

Scientifically speaking, rainbows are formed when part of the sky is still dark with rainclouds. Meanwhile, a flash of lightning (which is present during heavy storms) is created by electrical charges. When these two meteorological phenomena come together they create a jaw-dropping sight.
