A 5-year-old girl from California, USA, led by example by putting up a hot chocolate and cookie stand to pay off the lunch debts of her schoolmates.

Katelynn Hardee, a student at Breeze Hill Elementary School in Vista, made the initiative after overhearing a student’s mother say she was having a hard time paying something off, as per Fox 5 on Dec. 13. Being the inquisitive girl that she is, Katelynn did not think twice and turned to her mother, Karina, for answers.

“So she started asking me a bunch of questions and I tried to answer as best as I could without too much for a 5-year-old and just explained to her that some people aren’t as fortunate as us,” Karina Hardee said in the report.

After their talk, Katelynn came up with the plan to put up a hot chocolate and cookie stand, which was inspired by the lemonade stands she usually puts up during the summer. Katelynn made the treats herself, as per report, and took three hours over the weekend selling the cookies and hot chocolate.

“I just left a note saying my daughter held a hot cocoa fundraiser over the weekend and would love to donate the money to any of the negative accounts,” said Hardee.

Katelynn’s initiative took off and she was able to raise enough money to pay off the lunch debts of 123 students. Following her initiative, she was given an award by her school for her kind act. Cody Cepeda /ra
