Mocha Uson is so powerful she moved Mayon Volcano to Naga

In case you missed it, while you were sleeping or forgot to browse the news, Mayon Volcano apparently moved from Albay to Naga — but not due to natural or scientific reasons.

In a Facebook Live video, PCOO Asec. Mocha Uson fired at her critics and those who made a big deal out of her recent award from University of Santo Tomas Alumni Association Inc. She said people are using the “tiny issue” of her award to divert people’s attention from more pressing matters like the Dengvaxia controversy, Sen. Drillon allegedly accepting money from Janet Lim-Napoles, and the eruption of Mayon Volcano… in Naga.

“Ginagamit po ng ilang mga tao itong maliit na issue sa award para pagtakpan yung issue ng Dengvaxia, issue ng pagtanggap diumano ni Senator Drilon ng pera galing kay Napoles, at yung pinakamahalaga pa yung nangyayari sa Naga, ‘Yang pag-aalburuto ng Mayon volcano,” Uson said in the video.

Now this came as a shocker to netizens as we were all taught when we were kids that Mayon Volcano is in Legazpi City, Albay province. Naga City on the other hand is located in a different province, Camarines Sur.

Most people suggested that this just shows how powerful Asec. Uson is. Even mountains or volcanoes can be moved by her.

Others even poked fun at the idea that maybe Mayon is opening another “branch” at Naga City.

Or that it is now on a nationwide tour.

Asec. Uson later apologized in another video for mistaking that the Mayon is in Naga City. She admitted that what she said was wrong and that instead of Naga, Mayon Volcano is in “Bicol”.

While this may be true, considering that Albay is part of the Bicol region, people pointed out that it seemed that Asec. Uson thought Bicol is a province instead of a region. The Bicol Region (Region V) comprises six provinces: Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, and Masbate.

After becoming a trending topic on Twitter because of her Naga gaffe, she posted another video where she finally got it right when she introduced Mayor Lani Cayetano from Albay — where “Mayong Bulkan” is located.

Asec. Uson went on again to say that her mistake was just a petty issue compared to Dengvaxia and the death of University of Santo Tomas (UST) freshman law student Horacio “Atio” Tomas Castillo III. She said that people are making a big fuss of a mistake that wouldn’t even affect the economy of the country.

After everything Asec. Uson said and clarified regarding her statement about Mayon, someone on Twitter even decided to make a personified parody account of Mayon Volcano. @MayongBulkan’s Twitter bio reads: “Inabusong bulkan ni Mocha Uson” and its location is tagged at “Hindi po Naga, Bicol.”

It’s true that it was just a simple mistake and making fun of it won’t do the country good. But maybe, people deserve the right to expect that a government official — one who’s getting a salary ranging from P87,000 to P106,000 out of the Filipino people’s taxes — should know the geography of the country she’s representing. After all, we all had HEKASI subjects in elementary, didn’t we? /GAL
