An upcoming documentary about Matthew Perry delves into the events leading to his untimely death

“Everyone thought he was clean and sober. That’s when we know there’s way more into this story.”

An upcoming documentary will trail along Matthew Perry’s life and the last moments leading up to his lamentable death. ‘Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy’ is aimed to probe questions and shed more light regarding the investigation of his death.

In the documentary’s trailer, Martin Estrada, U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, said “We used to blame the victim. We don’t do that anymore.” Directed by Robert Palumbo for Peacock streaming service, the documentary will dive deeper on the unfortunate series of events that lead to Perry’s untimely passing.

On the 28th of October 2023, Perry was found unresponsive in his hot tub at the actor’s Los Angeles home, he was 54 years old. It was December of the same year where his cause of death was revealed to have been caused by high levels of ketamine found in a post-mortem test.

In August of 2024 five people were linked to the actor’s death and had been indicted and charged accordingly. Perry’s personal assistant, two doctors, and two drug dealers, one of which was a Hollywood director, were alleged to have distributed ketamine which caused Perry’s death over such foul play.

“Hollywood is full of enablers. They’d really preyed on somebody vulnerable,” was a striking line in the trailer that alluded to Perry’s protracted battle over substance abuse.

Perry rose to fame as Chandler Bing for renowned television series ‘Friends,’ which ran for ten seasons. However, his journey was marred with severe alcohol and substance abuse. This did not only take a toll on his finances, but also fractured his personal relationships, which left a deep mark on both his career and personal life. “I genuinely don’t think a lot of people realize what fame really is,” said by an interviewee in the documentary.

In 2022, Perry published a memoir ‘Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,’ which intimately narrated his experiences and sobriety.

Since his passing, family, friends, and fans of Perry expressed how much he will be missed and remembered. The upcoming documentary set to premiere on February 25, will feature experts and even close colleagues of Perry to piece together the legacy and unfortunate passing of Perry.

“This story has become so big, that we’re really forgetting this story is about one man and that he will be missed.”
