Award-winning actress and author Julianne Moore expressed her shock and disappointment after learning that her educational book about ‘embracing differences’ was yanked by Pentagon-run institutions.
On an Instagram post last February 17, 2025, Moore shared a picture of the cover page of the book ‘Freckleface Strawberry’. She stated that the book is a semi-autobiographical story about a 7 year-old girl who dislikes her freckles but eventually learns to live with them as she realizes her difference, ‘just like anybody else’. However, the book has been banned by the Department of Defense under the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.
Moore emphasized that she created this book for her children and as well as other children out there that we have our present struggles individually but we are united by humanity and the community. The story is also based on Moore’s distinctive red hair and freckles embracing her own difference in humanity that others as well may have or experience.
The book was published back in 2007 that was actually part of a series of Moore’s semi-autobiographical educational books. It was Moore’s hope in mankind for children to see ‘difference’ as a unique way and form that makes you stand out on your own.
Social media users and closest friends of Moore expressed their shock as well after personally reading the book and found it uplifting and seeing ‘difference’ as a good and positive energy.
Even with the saddened and disappointed feeling Moore voiced out, she continues her advocacy on representation and inclusivity all throughout the world.
