On November 4, streamer Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys released a YouTube video titled “i had a health scare,” where she opened up about her experience with a recurring lump that required further testing after it had previously been removed.
The experience was overwhelmingly stressful and anxiety-inducing for her, making it difficult to talk about even after it was over.
The lump was discovered after she underwent numerous MRIs on various parts of her body, which she then shared with her gynecologist. Her doctor expressed concern about the imaging on her chest and requested additional scans for further evaluation.
A biopsy later confirmed that the lump was benign, providing relief as it was determined to be non-cancerous.
Pokimane shared that the good news came on her mother’s birthday and included a snippet of the emotional phone call, where her mom called the results “the best birthday gift I could ever receive.”
At first, she was unsure about sharing what she had gone through with her audience, but she ultimately decided to do so for two reasons: first, she wished she had seen someone else go through a similar experience and reassure her about what it would be like, and second, to remind others that everything would be okay.
As someone with family members who have had breast cancer and who also has PCOS, Pokimane acknowledged that a high lifetime risk of breast cancer was something she needed to accept.
The streamer explained that screening is often part of a standard procedure and should be incorporated into a regular routine for self-care. She emphasized that it’s simply a precaution, not something to fear, and that early detection could help catch any issues in their initial stages.
