Online backlash follows viral video of woman standing defiantly to reserve a parking spot

A video circulating of a woman standing in a parking spot for allegedly “reserving” a space caused commotion on various social media platforms.

In the video, the woman in the pink shirt, who allegedly stood in the parking spot, was being yelled at by an older woman.

In a now-deleted post, the woman wearing the pink shirt posted her side of the story, saying she did not know that it was illegal.

“Everyone, whoever saw the viral video at Golden Haven please pa report po [please report], here the story, im with my dad na senior citizen, may mga bata at baby pa [there were children and a baby] almost 30 mins, 6:10pm ako nakadating dun sa area and may umalis na naka park, since na malapit na nag hihintay ako dun and madaming dumaan na sakin na cars and officials walang nag sabi sakin na bawal yun. then dumating yung family na naka montero around 6:30-6:40pm something then pag dating na pag dating nila naka high-pitched sila agad ang hinahon ko kausap na “may mag papark po nadyan na po sasakyan namin” [I arrived in the area at 6:10 pm, and a parked car had just left, so since it was close, I waited there. Many cars and officials passed by me, and no one told me it was prohibited. Then the family with the Montero arrived around 6:30-6:40 pm, and as soon as they arrived, they were immediately speaking in a high-pitched tone. I calmly explained to them, ‘We will park there, our car is already here.],” she wrote.

She also added that even though she was publicly humiliated, she remained calm and reiterated that she wasn’t aware that it was illegal and that she tried to talk in a calm manner.

In the video, another woman pushed her to the side to get her out of the parking spot as the car was moving towards her.

The woman who pushed her aside said in a Facebook post that her uncle was the first one who was told to leave by the girl wearing the pink shirt.

Story time naman namin? Kasi kwento mo yan eh. Tatlong sasakyan kami family. Yung tito ko una mong pinaalis. So nung bumaba na kami expect mo kalmado parin kami sayo? Daming lumapit samin ibat ibang tao sinasabi kanina ka pa hindi nagpapa-park […] wala kang sinabi samin na may kasama kang senior at mga bata. Ang gusto mo lang umalis na kami agad [Our side of the story? Since that’s your version. We have three cars in total. You made my uncle move first. So when we got out, did you expect us to still be calm with you? So many people came up to us, saying you hadn’t been letting anyone park for a while… You never told us you had a senior and kids with you. All you wanted was for us to leave right away],” she said.

She also added that the older woman who was shouting at the girl wearing pink was not with them, that she was asking if the girl could move because of an emergency, and that the older woman needed to pick up her mother.

Users of X (formerly known as Twitter) have mixed reactions to how the situation should’ve been handled.

“It is never right to reserve a parking spot by standing in front of it. HAHA nauna ka man don, kung walang kotse, free spot yon. Pero, this could’ve been handled more professionally. The sigawan was giving barbaric [Even if you got there first, if there’s no car, it’s still a free spot. But this could’ve been handled more professionally. The shouting was giving off barbaric vibes],” one x user said.

[Her defense is that she didn’t know it was prohibited, and others just ignored her. Just because something isn’t illegal and others let you get away with it doesn’t make it right—that’s called abuse and entitlement. It’s also not illegal to throw garbage anywhere, but is it the right thing to do?]”

A few social media users also said that both parties to the issue were in the wrong.

“This should have been settled properly if nagusap sila nang maayos [If they talked properly]. Kaloka. Kahit na mali ung nkapink, dpt hnde ganyan gnawa ng matanda? Sorry pero ambastos. Ung isa tinulak pa ung nkapink pra lg mkaalis. Idk pero lumabas ang totoong ugali ng dalawa dito. Lahat kayo mali HAHA [Even though the one in pink was wrong, the older woman shouldn’t have acted that way. Sorry, but that was rude. And one of them even pushed the girl in pink just to make her leave. I don’t know, but the true colors of both sides showed here. You’re all in the wrong],” an X user said.

This incident does highlight the need for greater awareness of parking etiquette and the importance of handling public disputes with respect and patience.
