Sophie Turner gets candid about the process of ‘incredibly sad’ divorce from Joe Jonas

A month after the finalization of her divorce from Joe Jonas, Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner now shares a glimpse of her life after the end of her four-year marriage.

Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar in an interview, Turner said that she felt “incredibly sad” about her split with the Jonas Brothers singer. “I’m going through a legal process right now where I can’t really say much, but it was incredibly sad,” Turner said in an interview.

“We had a beautiful relationship, and it was hard,” she continued.

Turner and Jonas began dating in 2016 when the latter sent the actress a direct message on Instagram. In 2019, the two tied the knot and eventually welcomed their two daughters, Willa and Delphine.

However, after four years of marriage, Jonas filed for divorce in September 2023. Their split sparked lengthy custody discussions which were later on settled by the two.

After the high-profile divorce from Jonas, Turner returned to her roots in the United Kingdom. According to the actress, this move has helped her heal and be herself again.

“I’m so happy to be back. It felt as if my life was on pause until I returned to England,” she shared. Turner then continued that she had suffered from homesickness the past years as she had lived in Los Angeles and subsequently in Miami throughout her marriage to Jonas.

“I just never really feel like myself when I’m not in London, with my friends and family. I was away for so long – six years – and it was when my friends were getting engaged, and when I got pregnant. I went for dinner with someone the other day, and she said, ‘I never got to touch your belly.’ We didn’t have those key experiences with each other,” she continued.

Turner also revealed that she stays with a friend when her children are with Jonas as she hates the idea of being at her West London home alone without them.

“Before I had kids, I was very depressed and anxious, and I would isolate [myself] a lot. Now, I think I live my life for them,” the actress said.

“I want them to see me having a social life enjoying work and thriving in my career and relationships. I want them to see a hard-working mum. I’ll come back and say, ‘This is why Mummy was away – it’s because she’s doing this for you, so Father Christmas can come with a big bundle of presents,’” she added.

In the past, Turner had also recalled the impact of the media portraying that she was a bad mother who liked to party had on her, saying that “those were the worst days of my life.”

“I remember I was on set, I was contracted to be on set for another two weeks, so I couldn’t leave. My kids were in the States, and I couldn’t get to them because I had to finish Joan. And all these articles started coming out,” Turner said in an interview with British Vogue in June of this year.

“It hurt because I really do completely torture myself over every move I make as a mother — mum guilt is so real! I just kept having to say to myself, ‘None of this is true. You are a good mum, and you’ve never been a partier,’” she continued.

According to multiple media reports recently, Turner and Jonas have decided to resolve their initial custody battle, with sources saying they are “friendly and great co-parents no.”

“[Turner and Jonas] decided to focus on what’s best for their girls. The divorce was difficult for all of them,” a source close to the former couple said.

Now, Turner is happily dating Peregrine Pearson. When asked about her relationship with Pearson, who is in line to become the 5th Viscount of Cowdray, Turner described that “he lights me back up.”

“It came around very quickly. I just needed to go on a date to know how to do it again. That was the first date and the last date, and it’s been great,” said the actress. “He’s lovely. He’s funny, and he brings out the cheeky side of me, the fun side. He lights me back up.
