Timothée Chalamet gatecrashes own look-alike event, sparks hilarious reactions

Timothée Chalamet shocked fans with a surprise appearance at his own look-alike contest in New York City on October 27, 2024.

The ‘Wonka’ star gatecrashed the event and posed for pictures with other curly-haired and chiseled-jawed doppelgangers during his brief show-up at Washington Square Park.

A report said that Chalamet snuck his way through the crowd dressed in a mask and baseball hat before approaching two of his lookalikes who had been taking photos, causing excited screams across the park.

Before the appearance of the actor, the New York City Police District (NYPD) also showed up to manage the quickly growing crowd under the iconic arch of the park.

Moments after the contest began, the police moved the group to the north side of the park and put one attendee in handcuffs; however, the reason is unknown.

The look-alike contest garnered over 2,500 RSVPs by promoting with flyers posted across the city with a cash prize of $50 for the winner.

It also grew attention on social media when various social media users posted about the contest on X (formerly known as Twitter), joking about the appearance of the actor.

“Timothée has the opportunity to do the funniest thing ever [right now],” one quote tweet said hours before the event took place.

A look-alike of the Chalamet, TikToker Cramer Ekholm flew from Wisconsin to take part in the contest.

“It’s my number one comment on social media […] I used to not like it because I’m my own person, but now I’ve learned to embrace it,” he said.

The 18-year-old internet personality, who has over 253,000 followers on TikTok, is well-known on the platform for his resemblance to the actor.

Social media users had a comedic reception of Chalamet’s appearance in his own look-alike event.

“IDK what’s crazier: 1) the fact that the REAL Timothee Chalamet showed up at the Timothee Chalamet lookalike contest OR 2) the fact a fake Timothee getting ARRESTED at the Timothee Chalamet lookalike contest,” one X user said.

Anthony Po, the mastermind of the event, also jumped into the hilarious tweets of internet users. “I was behind the Timothee Chalamet lookalike competition. Thanks, my #1 fan (Timothee), for showing up,” he wrote.

However, Po was fined $500 as the event in Washington Square Park was said to be “unpermitted.”
