Heartfelt ‘Carl x Japanese boy’ letters that touched the internet revealed to be fiction

A series of posts made through the UP Diliman Freedom Wall has caught the hearts of people online.

Last August 16, a letter was posted on the UP Diliman Freedom Wall, addressed to Carl, who is said to be a Fine Arts student at UP. The post reads, “It’s my last day today as an exchange student in Ateneo, tomorrow i will go back to Japan im sorry i didn’t tell. I’m not happy because im leaving you, the one and only friend i have, and perhaps my first love.”

The sender then proceeded recalling the memories they shared together and thanked him for everything they shared together.

Carl responded to the posted letter on on August 31 thanking him and wrote, “Thank you for sharing your warmth with me for the sunsets we chased until day’s end, for the quiet moments that spoke more deeply than any words could ever intend. I don’t know if I can call what I’m feeling love, but I know that it’s something deep, something that will linger long after the sun has set. You’ve left a mark on me, like the way the sun leaves its glow on the horizon even after it’s dipped below the earth.”

Although these posts are very touching to say the least, there have been suspicions whether or not this is a true story or it’s just fiction.

After some time, this has been answered as another post has arisen on the page clarifying everything which reads, “This is to inform everyone that the Carl x Japanese boy letter is an excerpt from a fictional romance story written by a student from the UP College of Arts and Letters (CAL) for a writing activity.

The post continued by mentioning that even though this was fictional, the inspiration behind the story came from the person’s uncle who befriends a Japanese exchange student from Ateneo.

Social media users shared their thoughts about the fictional story online, with some expressing disappointment.

While this is a fictional story, it can be inspired or show a reflection of a real authentic experience through words as a way to keep the memories alive and immortalize them.
