During “The Puppy Interview” with Buzzfeed released last August 26, Jenna Ortega talked about the rumors that originally went viral on social media last summer.
When she was asked about the “craziest rumor” she’s heard about herself, the actress stated, “Probably that I was in a serious relationship with Johnny Depp and I wanted everybody to leave us alone. It’s so insane to me. I never said anything like that.”
“I thought that that was pretty hilarious. I was on set with Richard E. Grant and he came up to me and he said, ‘Oh, so you and Johnny…’ and I laughed because I don’t know that person,” she added.
The actress was initially connected to Depp via the celebrity Instagram account DeuxMoi last summer. However, the actor’s representative refuted the rumor.
“Mr Depp has no personal or professional relationship with Miss Ortega whatsoever. He has never met her or spoken to her,” a representative of the actor told NME. “He is not involved in any project with her, nor does he intend it to be. He is appalled by these baseless and malicious rumors that are intended to harm his reputation and career.”
However, Tim Burton, who is directing Ortega in the upcoming Beetlejuice sequel, collaborates with both Depp and Ortega. The actress portrays Lydia Deetz’s daughter Astrid Deetz, played by Winona Ryder. In addition, Michael Keaton and Catherine O’Hara are also reprising their roles from the 1988 cult classic.
In her recent guest appearance at “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” last August 21, the actress revealed how Keaton scared her on set while wearing his Betelgeuse costume.
“I was getting a hair and makeup test, and I got a tap on the shoulder and I turned around and it was a jump scare for sure. He was like, ‘Oh hey, I’m Michael,’ and he had molds peeling off his face,” she stated.
The actress also mentioned that she played it cool meeting him again and said, “I played it cool. And then it was cool until I met him for the second time out of hair and makeup because I introduced myself again because I forgot that I had already met him.”
Ortega praised Keaton as “the coolest” and expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to appear in the film.
