Following an accusation of committing an undisclosed sexual offense, Taeil has parted ways with K-pop boy band NCT as announced by SM Entertainment last August 28.
In a statement shared by the entertainment agency on X (formerly Twitter), Taeil left the band and is currently fully cooperating with police investigation.
Their statement reads, “We have recently learned that TAEIL has been accused of a criminal case related to a sexual offense.”
“While assessing the facts related to this matter, we recognized the severity of the issue and determined that he can no longer continue team activities,” they continued. “After discussing with TAEIL, it’s been decided that he will withdraw from the team … We deeply apologize for the controversy caused by our artist.
Nothing further has been made public regarding the nature of his alleged offense. The police refused to comment on the situation as reported by Associated Press.
Upon knowing the situation, many K-pop stans on social media are now making a plea to investigate the whole group following the K-pop idol’s scandal.

Investigate all 26 members I don’t care. I understand having double lives between idol and personal but not when it means grooming and sexually assaulting women and children. Get rid of them no matter what https://t.co/mkzQMHA3FY

Taeil was a member of NCT as well as the NCT 127 subgroup, which in July came out with their sixth studio album, WALK.
Due to his recovery from a catastrophic motorbike accident last August 2023, which needed surgery and a hiatus to allow him to concentrate on his rehabilitation, his involvement in the acts has been limited during the previous year.
The exit of the South Korean star occurs nearly two months after Johnny and Haechan, two other members of NCT 127, were accused online of being involved in a sex scandal, a claim that SM firmly denied.
A threat of legal action was also made by the agency against social media accounts that are spreading the rumors stating, “We have already gathered sufficient evidence regarding numerous posts related to these matters … we will not overlook such criminal acts and will take legal action against those involved without leniency or settlement, regardless of their nationality.”
