BTS members Jungkook and V have initiated legal proceedings against the operator of the YouTube channel Quitting Fandom Center. The lawsuit, filed in March 2024, seeks 90 million won in damages for defamation and insults directed at the artists.
The case is being pursued in collaboration with Big Hit Music, and the first hearing is scheduled for August 23, 2024, at the Seoul Western District Court, five months after the initial filing.
The legal action follows a situation where V encountered a screenshot of a video from Quitting Fandom Center that featured malicious content about him and his group. In response, V addressed the issue on social media, stating, “Oh? I’ll sue. It’ll cost me money for snacks. He’s even bothering my family and friends. Bye.”
This lawsuit builds on a prior legal effort against the same de-fan camp in 2022. Although that case was initially suspended, the investigation was resumed after Big Hit Music provided personal information to authorities. Big Hit Music emphasized, “In the previous lawsuit, many suspects were sent to the prosecution, and we are awaiting the results of the criminal punishment for the suspects. Even though it will take some time for the punishment of the suspects, we will take strong legal action until the end.”
V further addressed the issue on Weverse, expressing his frustration about the harmful videos. He stated, “All artists hate people like that,” and added, “I will sue on behalf of those who were hurt and lost their courage.” He also reassured fans of his resilience, emphasizing his strength in dealing with the situation.
Fans are applauding the decision and expressing strong support for Jungkook and V’s legal action. Many fans believe that this lawsuit is a necessary step against the spread of false information and malicious content targeting K-pop idols.
