Philippines records low wristband return rate at Coldplay’s world tour

Rock band Coldplay returned to Manila again for their ‘Music of the Spheres World Tour’ last January 19 to 20 at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.

So what happens usually before large-scale concerts like this: concertgoers are given wristbands (or Xylobands in this case, because Coldplay), that are supposed to be returned at the end of the show. They have a tradition wherein they show the turnout of wristbands and the Philippines has only reached 87%.

On the recycling leaderboard displayed after day 1, Japan leads with 97%, followed by Denmark with 96%, and Malaysia with 90%.

Upon knowing this information, Filipinos took to social media to express their disappointment regarding the wristband turnaround issue.

One user wrote, “Expected! Pinoy eh😎🙌🏼”.

Another user wrote, “Gusto talaga my souvenir whahah 😅”.

One even joked about selling the wristband to Boss Toyo, “Boss Toyo agad yan ‘pinagpalit ko dignidad ko pra sa wristband na to..’”

The rock band first visited the country to hold their concert back in 2017 at the Mall of Asia Concert Grounds.

Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres is the first tour to feature Pixmob’s 7-LED wristband and the world’s first compostable, plant-based plastic wristband, made from renewable sugarcane.

According to PixMob, the maker of the wristbands, their main goal is to make their shows as sustainable as possible while still elevating the fan’s experience with these wristbands. With the recycling done during the tour, they are proud to say that they reached a 47% reduction in emissions for the rock band’s tour.

“The goal of igniting collective joy in fans’ hearts motivates us to keep improving our technology. One of the most memorable moments of the tour, when fans see hearts beating in sync with their favorite music,” stated by PixMob.
