Disney fans from all ages were sent straight down memory lane as exceptional performers belted out Disney classics at the ‘Disney Princess: The Concert’ last November 18 and 19, at the Samsung Performance Theater in Circuit Makati.
Composed of renowned Broadway and television stars Krysta Rodriguez (Smash), Anneliese van der Pol (That’s So Raven), Steffanie Leigh (Mary Poppins – broadway), Adam J. Levy (Moulin Rouge – broadway), and Aisha Jackson (Once Upon A One More Time!), and accompanied by their music supervisor and co-director Benjamin Rauhala, they began the show with a vibrant and energetic performance of the 2021 Disney Princess anthem “Starting Now,” originally performed by award-winning American artist Brandy.
In their sparkling glittery outfits, the ladies performed their medley of classic hits from the princesses of different eras such as “When Will My Life Begin,” “Reflection,” “Touch The Sky,” “For The First Time,” and “Part of Your World.” The audience was not able to hold back from singing along with them.
They also gave a nod to the original Disney princesses from the Golden Age with songs from “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” “Cinderella,” and “Sleeping Beauty.”
Loud cheers erupted inside the theater when Adam and Krysta performed a duet of “A Whole New World,” from the iconic 1992 Disney renaissance film “Aladdin” which landed an Academy Award for Best Original Song and was the only song from the studio to earn a Grammy Award for Song of the Year.
In the second half of the concert, the quartet, now dressed in golden, embellished gowns, showcased their angelic voices and smooth harmonization in the rendition of the 2007 movie “Enchanted”’s soundtrack “That’s How You Know.”
Krysta, Anneliese, Steffanie, and Aisha displayed their vocal prowess and range by performing the soundtracks and reliving some of the memorable scenes of next-generation Disney Princesses from “Tangled,” “Frozen,” and “Moana.”
Also performed were underrated Disney songs such as Anastasia’s “Journey To The Past”, Mary Poppins’ “Chim Chim Cher-ee,” The Princess and The Frog’s “Almost There,” and the Beauty and the Beast’s “Belle.” According to Benjamin, this was his favorite part of the show.
For the closing performance, the cast brought the house down with their own powerful version of “Let It Go” from the 2013 commercially acclaimed movie “Frozen” while bursts of snow-like confetti rained over the venue.
The Disney Princess: The Concert was also held in Davao and Cebu on November 21 and 22 respectively as part of their Philippine tour.
