Red Velvet chillingly eerie for their 3rd studio album, ‘Chill Kill’

What a Chill Kill!

After what seems to be a decade, Red Velvet finally released their 3rd studio album titled “Chill Kill” on November 13, 2023, at 6 P.M. KST. This is their latest full-length Korean album following the release of “Perfect Velvet” in 2017. The release of the album also comes almost a year after their sixth special EP, “The ReVe Festival 2022 – Birthday.”

The album features 10 tracks, including its lead single of the same name. The songs from the album each have a different vibe and genre, ranging from pop dance, dance, and R&B, and were described by the members themselves as a mix of their genres—totally “Red Velvet.”

The album also made a buzz as soon as the teaser images and mood samplers of each member were released. Even more so when the album’s trailer video had dropped and was compared to recent horror movie releases.

“Chill Kill,” the album’s title track, was composed and arranged by almost all of Red Velvet’s “hit makers”: Kenzie, Moa “Cazzi Opeia” Carlebecker, Moonshine, and Ellen Berg, raising anticipation for how the song sounds like.

The song is described as “a unique pop dance song that highlights Red Velvet’s wide music spectrum,” with “heavy bass, string melodies, dreamy synths, and bell rhythm” and the lyrics talking about a love affair and longing “even in the midst of tragedy when the quiet world was turned upside down.”

The music video to “Chill Kill” sees the 5 members of Red Velvet playing “sisters” initially celebrating the birthday of Yeri until they notice an uncanny presence near them.

Red Velvet’s third studio album has been long anticipated by their fans, ReVeluvs, who have been clamoring for better treatment for the girl group. Upon the album’s release, well, feeling pride and amazement is an understatement.

The album had just cemented itself as one of Red Velvet’s best—unfaltering in their journey as artists and staying true to their concept and artistry. Even Red Velvet themselves are proud of their 3rd studio album.
