People are being reminded of ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ because of its controversial cast

TW: mentions of rape, assault, and abuse

The movie ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ has been making waves once again, but unfortunately not in a good way, as some of its actors are being faced with their respective controversy right now. Forgetting Sarah Marshall is a 2008 American rom-com that was widely and positively received by critics and regular viewers alike. But because of several high profile news about several celebrities–some of whom starred in Forgetting Sarah Marshall–we now have this meme in circulation:

Yes, this is really not a good year for the main cast of this movie. Here’s a roundup of the issues that the cast brought themselves into:

Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis and her husband Ashton Kutcher have been facing backlash recently following the release of their letters that they wrote in support of their former co-star, Danny Masterson. The actor is known for his role as Hyde in That ‘70s Show and has been the subject of an ongoing trial for sexual assault, that he ended up being sentenced the past week. While they have written these letters in support of Masterson, they have issued a public apology to fans of the series and in support of the victims of Masterson’s crimes. The actor was found guilty on two accounts of rape and sentenced to 30 years in jail following a long trial.

Russell Brand

Russell Brand

Russell Brand has been accused of rape, sexual assault, and emotional abuse following a special Channel 4 Dispatches program about an investigation conducted by the channel. The comedian took to his YouTube channel to deny the serious allegations that were made against him stating while he was very promiscuous at the night of his fame, his relationships have always been consensual. Russell has denied any wrongdoing saying, “Amidst this litany of astonishing, rather baroque attacks are some very serious allegations that I absolutely refute.”

Jonah Hill

Jonah Hill

Jonah Hill faced his own controversy when his ex-girlfriend, Sarah Brady, shared alleged text messages between the pair on social media and accused him of “emotional abuse.” The actor allegedly told his ex-girlfriend that to be in a romantic partnership with him, she wasn’t allowed to have inappropriate friendships with men and friendships with women who are in unstable places. Former Zoey101 star, Alex Nikolas also took to social media accusing Hill of assaulting her when she was 16 years old by slamming her into the door and shoving his tongue down her throat. The actor denied that ever happened and branded Nikolas’ allegations a complete fabrication.

Kristen Bell

Kristen Bell

Kristen Bell did not provide a direct response to the sexual assault allegations about her co-star Russell Brand. However, what she seemingly gave as a ‘warning‘ on set while filming together back in 2008 has resurfaced. “He didn’t try to mess with me or get in my pants. He knew I would lop his nuts odd,” she told the Scottish Daily Record in 2010.

In the same year, she told DailyMail “I made it really clear from the beginning that I would sock him in the balls if he tried anything. So he was intimidated.”

She did say later on that she loved working with him and that she might be “the only woman in the world who would shout that from the rooftops.”

Jason Segel

Jason Segel

When Jason Segel joined The Hollywood Reporter’s Comedy Actor Roundtable, he spoke about some of his true feelings towards the end of the ninth season of the hit show “How I Met Your Mother.”

The actor said, “There was a period in my life and career around the last couple years of ‘How I Met Your Mother’ where things were firing on both movies and TV, and everyone was telling me how well it was going and I was really unhappy.”

Despite being part of hit movies such as “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” “I Love You, Man” and “This Is 40,” he still sensed that “something was off.”
