Other fun fitness activities to jump-start your health journey

TRI 2

MANILA, Philippines – Here are some of the best fun-filled fitness activities recommended by certified Pilates and Yoga instructor Katrina Mariano to jump-start your health journey. Check them out:

Summer is just around the corner and if you’re thinking of flaunting your svelte physique by the beach or pool, it’s time to tone and work those muscles. While others typically head to their neighborhood gym, others are looking for a different thrill when it comes to burning those calories. Look no further as I share with you some of the newest, fun activities to help bring sexy back!

1. Zumba

While definitely not a new thing, Zumba has earned newfound fame across all ages and generations. With most village clubs and even malls hosting Zumba classes regularly, Zumba has become one of the most accessible fitness activities. It’s highly recommended for both the young and old who find typical physical activities such as running and walking too strenuous. Even with minimal movements, participants can burn off a few pounds and increase their flexibility over time. If you’re looking for a fast way to burn calories and create that lean, mean physique, Zumba is a great option.

2. Capoiera

Capoiera is a growing movement in the Philippines and it brings together elements of dance, acrobatics and Brazilian martial arts. It’s a fun way to work those muscles, while learning a form of self-defense. The wide, rhythmic movements push you to stretch and activate muscles that you normally don’t get to use in normal daily activity. Plus the bass-thumping beats get your heart rate going for that great cardio work up.

3. Aerial Dancing

Aerial Dance, a form of acrobatics wherein dancers are suspended in the air, has moved away from its “circus” origins and has become a legitimate workout activity. Using coordinated movements that are smooth and graceful, aerial dance has allowed many women – as well as men – rediscover their sensual side.

Explore your sexuality and work those core muscles to build a stronger, more beautiful you. Aerial dance is an art form as well as a fitness activity, so this is particularly loved by dancers and performers.

4. Pilates

Whether you have 10minutes or 45minutes, Pilates offers an intense workout that uses the entire body. It’s an exceptional discipline that aims to enhance balance, posture, strength and flexibility. After a few session, you’ll start to feel long and lean with no bulk.

 5. Spinning

Welcome to the world of indoor cycling! If you prefer the cool indoors, and working out with a group, try a spinning class. For a full 45 minutes, jam to the hyper, club beats and break out a sweat as you target your quads and buns. In just a few weeks, you’ll be feeling like JLo and Beyonce with your perky derriere. Check out the spinning class, which I host at Upper Deck, every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 7pm onwards.

Working out shouldn’t be a chore, so continue to explore and find the physical activity that best suits you.
