Jumping into the C-Drama fever: 5 C-Dramas worthy to binge-watch

Chinese dramas, or simply “C-Dramas,” are currently making waves and gaining immense popularity. They are known for covering a wide range of genres and themes that can cater to various tastes and preferences of audiences. Thanks to streaming platforms, C-Dramas have also made its way to global reach. With that, here are five C-Dramas worthy to binge-watch.

Hidden Love

The 25-episode teen series, “Hidden Love,” follows the story of a young girl named Sang Zhi who falls in love with her brother’s friend, Duan Jiaxu, despite a five-year age gap. Chinese actors Zhao Lusi and Chen Zheyuan play the roles, respectively. Through time, the simple crush turns into love. “Hidden Love,” celebrates the old-school kind of romance, different from today, and the innocence that comes with love. Given the sensitive topic of age and adulthood, the approach to the story will make you appreciate the show more.

When I Fly Towards You

Romantic-comedy series, “When I Fly Towards You,” centers around Yucai Middle School transfer student Zhang Miao Yi as Su Zai Zai who falls in love at first sight with Zhang Lu Rang played by Zhou Yi Ran. The two have opposite personalities—Su Zai Zai is a cheerful girl while Zhang Lu Rang is rude and a bully. But, Zhang Lu Rang’s life changes upon meeting Su Zai Zai. “When I Fly Towards You,” makes one go back to the past and relive their youth. It’s warm, it’s light-hearted, and of course, perfect for binge-watching with only 24 episodes to watch.

Exclusive Fairytale

“Exclusive Fairytale,” is a 24-episode coming-of-age drama that revolves around the love story of childhood sweethearts Ling Chao played by SEVENTEEN’s Wen Junhui and Xiao Tu played by Zhang Miao Yi. The show showcases their journey as young individuals who go through both good and bad times. Despite polar opposite personalities, the two share a love-hate relationship since childhood. Unlike Zhang Miao Yi who already starred in previous shows like the popular series, “When I Fly Towards Youm” “Exclusive Fairytale,” serves as Wen Junhui’s acting debut, so this will definitely be something to watch out for!

A Love So Beautiful

One should never forget “A Love So Beautiful,” when talking about C-Dramas. This 23-episode, with a plus one special, romance drama gained a lot of attention not only in China but internationally for its heartwarming and nostalgic plot. It tells the story of Chen Xiao Xi played by Shen Yue and Jiang Chen played by Hu Yutian starting from high school days up to adulthood. Chen Xiao Xi is an energetic and outgoing girl who has a long-time crush on the intelligent and aloof Jiang Chen. “A Love So Beautiful,” is praised for its portrayal of the high school journey, friendship, first love, and personal growth.

Meteor Garden

One word: classic. The iconic Taiwanese series was remade into a Chinese television series, this time, starring Dylan Wang as Dao Ming Si, Shen Yue as Dong Shan Cai, Darren Chen as Huaze Lei, Ceasar Wu as Ximen Yan, and Connor Leong as Feng Meizuo. The show still follows the original story of ordinary and strong-willed girl Dong Shancai who gets accepted at a prestigious university and clashes with the elite clique F4 led by Dao Ming Si. Despite being constantly compared to the original version, the show still received widespread popularity and has captured international attention.

C-Dramas just keep growing and evolving, and we cannot wait to see more of it!
