ADOR’s K-pop girl group NewJeans expressed their admiration and gratitude toward South Korean singer and songwriter IU during the 21st episode of IU’s YouTube talk show Palette.
NewJeans is the latest guest on the episode released last Monday, July 24, to promote their recently released 2nd EP ‘Get Up’ featuring three title tracks, “Super Shy,” “ETA,” and “Cool With You,” and three B-side tracks, “New Jeans,” “Get Up,” and “ASAP.”
The episode also followed the debut anniversary of NewJeans which debuted in July last year with members Hanni, Danielle, Hyein, Haerin, and Minji.
During the episode, NewJeans and IU talked about various topics including their similar likes and photography, they also chose their favorite songs from the EP and taught IU and the show’s band the choreography to their new song “Super Shy.”
The group also sang their new song “ASAP,” and a medley of all the songs on the new EP, and in the segment ‘Color Switch’ – which was named on the show by the NewJeans members, where the two artists will sing each other songs – NewJeans sang a cover of IU’s 2021 hit-song from her album Lilac, “Celebrity.”
“There were so many reasons [why we chose to sing this song]. First of all, we really love this song, plus, because you, IU, are our celebrity,” Minji said.
On the other hand, IU sang a cover of NewJeans’ R&B track from their debut album New Jeans, “Hurt.”
Toward the end of the show, IU asked the group for any last remarks, wherein, they expressed their admiration and gratitude to the singer.
Hanni shared that prior to moving to South Korea, she had already been listening to IU, “I was always listening to your song and my mom really loved your songs and they provided lots of comfort to her,” she said. “My mom had me listen to the song, “Through the Night.”
Similarly, Danielle shared that when she used to live in South Korea when she was 6 years old, IU became a huge part of her admiration toward the K-pop genre, recalling a vivid memory, “I was listening to your song, “Good Day,” on the bed with my sister and we jumped on the bed and had a great time while listening to it. But thinking of that memory again, that was the beginning of my love for K-pop, I think this moment will remain in my memories forever,” she said.
On the other hand, Hyein, who was born in the same year IU debuted as a singer in 2008, shared that she had many memories relating to the singer and is happy that she could have a conversation with her and sing a song in front of her.
Haerin also shared her admiration for the singer and wanted to express her gratitude toward her, “I always listen to songs when I get stressed or when I want to take care of my emotions, and listening to your songs, I could relate to so many lyrics and I could take better care of my emotions thanks to you,” she said. “So I really want to thank you. Today, I had a chance to say what I always wanted to tell you.”
Lastly, Minji wanted to share how IU’s songs gave her energy, “I love your songs, “The Shower,” I also love “Twenty-three” and “Knees” as well. And those three songs really gave me lots of energy so that I could take care of myself. I feel so grateful for you,” she said.
During IU’s closing remark, she also shared that she admired the group and had always wanted to have a conversation with them prior to the talk show, “Through this opportunity, I could discover additional charms from you. So, I believe I became a fan of yours, my gut told me that I’m going to be Bunnies (NewJeans fandom). Through this opportunity,” IU said. “I could understand why a lot of people are loving NewJeans so much.”
