On Valentine’s Day, global pop star Lady Gaga teased fans with her first look as Harley Quinn in the forthcoming ‘Joker: Folie à Deux,’ a full-blown musical film.
Two days after the teaser trailer was released, filmmaker Todd Philips shared the close-up photo of Gaga with her co-star Joaquin Phoenix. The singer-actress will be playing the character of Joker’s sidekick-slash-love-interest in the sequel to the ‘Joker,’ the 2019 movie that grossed $1 billion and led Phoenix to win the Oscar for Best Actor award.

In August 2022, the singer announced her casting in the second season of the top-grossing DC film. It follows the life of failed comedian Arthur Fleck, who is dealing with psychological issues as a result of a string of rejections. Isolated, degraded, and bullied by the crowd, he then dons the Joker persona and becomes a folk hero. Later on, he meets Harleen Quinzel, a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum. After their sessions together, she falls in love with Joker and eventually changes her identity to Harley Quinn and becomes his partner in crime.
Actress Margot Robbie had previously portrayed the iconic heroine in the ‘Suicide Squad’ series and ‘Birds of Prey’ while Kaley Cuoco voices the said character on the ongoing HBO Max animated show ‘Harley Quinn’.
The sequel’s title ‘Folie à Deux,’ is a medical term that deals with similar or identical mental disorders affecting two or more individuals, particularly the members of a close family.’
‘Joker 2’ arrives during DC’s transformation, as DC Studios bosses Peter Safran and James Gunn are now developing animation and video game projects that will all take place in the shared universe. It includes Joker or Matt Reeve’s ‘The Batman’ sequel that will be named ‘DC Elseworlds,’ a term inspired by the comics community in which alternate universe stories are told.
Warner Bros. announced that the sequel will hit theaters on October 4, 2024.
