Disney announces ‘Toy Story 5,’ garners negative reactions online

Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Toy Story 5 is currently in the works at Pixar, but it seems like fans are not happy about it.

The issue: A lot of people believe that the franchise has already come to an end a long long time ago. With a 10-year gap between the second and third sequels, followed by another 9 years before the fourth, viewers have believed that the top-notch animated series was over more than once.

Many people are convinced that ‘Toy Story 3’ has already provided the ideal denouement. Back in 2010, the original trilogy ended with Andy going to college and giving his toys—including his best friends Woody and Buzz to a new kid named Bonnie after one last emotional play session. It was the ‘perfect’ time for Andy, and for us to bid farewell to these characters we used to love during our childhood.

Then Toy Story 4 came out, justifying its own existence with a disappointing epilogue in which Woody left his original group and rode off into the sunset with Bo Peep and her sheep. Thus, many people on the internet reacted to the recently announced sequel by saying that ‘toys’ have done enough.

“Kinda wish they weren’t making a Toy Story 5. They should’ve ended the franchise after Toy Story 3, it had the perfect ending,” a Twitter user justified.

“Selfish they are. They don’t care about the story. They just want more money. Toy Story 4 was bad and 5 gonna be another flop,” another said.

Some users also described the ‘emotional torture’ of saying goodbye to our favorite toys over and over again.

“There is going to be a Toy Story 5, I don’t know how many endings to these toys I can emotionally handle,” one tweeted.

“Toy Story 5 is so dumb, they’re gonna repeat the same emotional beats from the last two movies while playing coy about whether it’ll really be a finale. Let’s face it, this is Pixar’s Madagascar. A franchise that started out fun and charming slowly drained of any originality,” another explained.
