Girl in a jacket

Aespa are the ‘Girls’ to watch out for in their latest MV and mini-album

We them girls, we them girls, we them girls

Aespa’s finally made their highly anticipated comeback on July 8, 2022, at 1 P.M. KST, with their second mini-album, “Girls”. Prior to the album’s drop, aespa has already set new records, with SM Entertainment announcing that the 4-member group’s album has reached 1,610,517 stock pre-orders.

This means that aespa has broken the record for the highest number of stock pre-orders achieved by any girl group in history, with BLACKPINK formerly holding their record of 1,028,888 for their “THE ALBUM” in 2020. Both girl groups are the only ones with albums surpassing 1 million stock pre-orders.

“Girls” consists of 9 songs—2 pre-release tracks (“Illusion” and “Life’s Too Short”), their first 2 lead singles (“Black Mamba” and “Forever”), “Dreams Come True”, a Korean version of “Life’s Too Short”, “Lingo”, “ICU”, and title track “Girls”.

The lead single for the second mini-album, “Girls”, is described as a dance track with wobble bass and rough synth sounds and has lyrics expressing the continuation of aespa and æ-aespa’s journey with Naevis. The music video sees the members’ acting in their specific roles in their lore while trying to continue their journey to KWANGYA.

The song itself may be a little bit hard to understand due to their lore, but fans were nevertheless hooked by the powerful showcase of their vocals, rap, and choreography.
