True to her song Time In that says “Akin ang sandali, ako ang reyna ng gabi,” pop rock singer-songwriter Yeng Constantino indeed was the star of “Ako Si Josephine” — a musical that features 28 of her songs, including some of her hits and unreleased singles.

Yeng, whose real name is “Josephine,” celebrates a fruitful decade in the music industry with the month-long run of Ako Si Josephine that features renditions of her hit songs including “Hawak Kamay,” “Time In,” “Jeepney Love Story,” “Chinito,” and many more.

Last September 6, Ako Si Josephine performed for the first time on stage for the press and was opened for public viewing last September 8 at the PETA Theater Center.

Set in a fictional music empire called “Allegra,” Ako Si Josephine zeroes in a world where love songs are not allowed and centers on the story of a girl named Josephine who tries to break the monotony of music in Allegra and make people feel emotions again through music.

Via Antonio stars as Josephine and Maronne Cruz alternates for the lead role. Jon Santos and Ricci Chan also alternates as Monotomia, the leader of the music empire. And while having the same role, the two promises to give different tastes to their portrayal with a style of their own.

Via delivered a seemingly effortless yet impeccable performance as Josephine, and occasionally sent the crowd into laughter with her notable wit. She and Joaquin Valdes (playing Chinito, Josephine’s boss whom she has a crush on) also had kilig vibes during the performance of “Chinito.” How their story and their quest to bring back love and emotions in music would end up is something people should look forward to.

Yeng, who just saw the whole play for the first time that night, shared a quote when she addressed the audience on stage before the musical started. “Small things become great when done with love.” Recalling her early years in songwriting, Yeng said she never thought about the success she’s having with the ten years she’s been in the industry and how Ako Si Josephine is a testament to that.

From the creators behind the highly-acclaimed “Rak of Aegis,” director Maribel Legarda, playwright Liza Magtoto, and musical director-arranger Myke Salomon offers another spectacular musical experience with Ako Si Josephine.

Yengster or not, Ako Si Josephine is a must-watch musical for its artistry and all the fun it offers.
