Finally, THE Bong Joon-Ho has confirmed that he’s going to work on his next movie after about two years since the release of his academy award-winning film, Parasite.
It is an understatement to say that we are enthralled to see another one of Bong Joon-Ho’s legendary films. Additionally, our excitement cannot be contained because Hollywood star Robert Pattinson is in talks to work with the director in this movie.
According to Deadline, the film will be based on Edward Ashton’s soon-to-be-published science fiction novel Mickey7 which is set to be released in the first quarter of 2022.
The novel’s plot centers on Mickey7, a disposable employee on a human expedition dispatched to colonize the ice world Niflheim. Whenever there’s a task that’s too risky, the crew asks for Mickey’s help. But when he goes missing after a mission and is thought to be dead by his crew, he comes back to discover that he’s already been replaced by his clone, Mickey8. The act of cloning or duplicating is considered unlawful to their world which is why Mickey7 must keep his identity clandestine from the colony.
According to Deadline, at the end of 2021, the author had presented the manuscript to Bong, which the director was immediately interested in.
In that same year, Bong Joon-Ho and the producers had met Pattinson and other A-list celebrities, looking for someone who would fit the character. It didn’t take long for the director to be impressed with Pattinson, so he offered the role to the actor at once.
Pattinson’s prior work to this project is his highly anticipated film, The Batman, which will be out on March 4, 2022.
Currently, there’s still no news about the date of filming as the novel is still waiting to be published.
The book is confirmed to be released on February 15, 2022.
