Jason Momoa to join the Fast family with ‘Fast and Furious 10’

The tenth installment of the Fast and Furious movie series has finally introduced another addition to their Fast family, and it is no other than the Aquaman actor Jason Momoa.

Following the report that Momoa was in “final negotiations” to join the Fast and Furious franchise, the official Twitter account of the Fast Saga confirmed on January 29 that the actor will star in Fast & Furious 10. The Fast Saga wrote: “The Fast Fam keeps getting bigger. Welcome, Jason Momoa. #F10.”

While it is unclear what Momoa’s role in the Fast & Furious 10 could be, an early report from The Hollywood Report said that he could be one of the film’s villains. However, as of writing, plot details about the film and Momoa’s role are yet to be announced by Universal Pictures, and the script is still in “its early stages”, according to ScreenRant.

Justin Lin, the director of the third to the sixth installment of the action movie series and F9: The Fast Saga, is set to direct Fast & Furious 10. Lin will also serve as a producer, alongside Vin Diesel, who will return in the film to reprise his role. Joining Diesel are Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, and Sung Kang. It is also uncertain whether John Cena and Charlize Theron will come back, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, Theron is expected to return after her stint at The Fate of the Furious and F9: The Fast Saga.

Former WWE superstar and Jumanji actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, on the other hand, will not be returning in Fast & Furious 10.

After Diesel’s Instagram post in November where he pleaded with Johnson to return, Johnson revealed in an interview with CNN Entertainment in December 2021 that he had told Diesel and his partners at Universal that he would be returning to the franchise. Johnson went on and called Diesel’s post “an example of his manipulation”, expressing that he didn’t like that Diesel mentioned his children and Paul Walker’s death.

Johnson then said that he wishes the franchise and his fellow co-stars the best of luck and success. “Regardless, I’m confident in the ‘Fast’ universe and its ability to consistently deliver for the audience, and I truly wish my former co-stars and crew members the best of luck and success in the next chapter.”

Fast & Furious 10 hits theaters on May 19, 2023. It is the first film in a two-part finale of the franchise.

Fast & Furious 10 is expected to pick up after F9: The Fast Saga, where it follows the story of Dominic Toretto (played by Vin Diesel) and his crew where they must take on an international terrorist, who happens to be both Dom and Mia’s (played by Jordana Brewster) estranged brother Jakob (played by John Cena).
