International Women’s Peace Group Highlights Peace through virtual conduct of Women’s Peace Network Forum

The International Women’s Peace Group commemorated the National Peace Consciousness Month & International Day of Peace, through the conduct of a virtual Women Peace Forum on September 19 from 2 o’clock to 4 o’clock in the afternoon via Zoom was dubbed as “Enhancing the Role of Women in Promoting a Culture of Peace.”

Mayor Sara Duterte gave her congratulatory message to grace the forum. She emphasized that “In these modern times where conflict resolution is one of society’s pressing matters, the participation of women from various levels of leadership has been recognized to be invaluable in the formulation of a culture of peace. “

Also the Commissioner of  Philippine Commission on Women, Chairperson Sandra Montano stated that “A culture of peace requires the participation of Women.With women, mothers, grandmothers often being the first teachers of children, they play a vital role in educating people to value PEACE not WAR!”

Participated in by women peace advocates from all over the country, the Women Peace Forum featured three women leaders who talked on various issues surrounding Peace.

Ms. Sholai Lim, the chairperson of Provincial Women Development Council of Davao De Oro talked about  the Role of Women in Promoting a Culture of Peace. She mentioned that Peace isn’t defined by one voice, for peace is achieved when different voices come into agreement. Peace isn’t only a work of the strong men, for peace also calls for equality. 

The second speaker was Ms. Erlinda Olivia “Olive” Tiu, director of the Philippine Information Agency in Eastern Visayas and secretary of the National Federation of Women’s Clubs of the Philippines, who talked about the Role of Women Media/Communicators in Promoting a Culture of Peace. She challenged the women leaders to consider creating a women communicators network who would advocate peace, truth and never share misinformation and disinformation.

Meanwhile, Mayor Elizabeth Mangudadatu Tayuan of the town of Mangudadatu, Maguindanao, discussed Enhancing the Role of Women Promoting the Culture of Peace and Women’s Rights. She gave meaningful message that We Women are not burden, we are precious asset to our society. Women should also lead the men in promoting a culture of peace.

In her welcome remarks, The executive manager of IWPG Philippines said “We are women! We have an important role and responsibility to make this world a better place.”

The participants who are all women leaders believe that in its small way, IWPG will achieve world peace through the hearts of all mothers.  IWPG is the gathering of women who embrace the world with maternal hearts to make peace. They all have a mutual goal of leaving Peace as a legacy to the future generation.

The IWPG is working with 200 branches around the globe and 100 affiliated groups to ensure peace and security of all women around the world.

The IWPG has been holding seminars, conferences, walk festivals and campaigns to promote the culture of peace.  It also conducts constant activities for human rights and highlights the importance of women’s rights.
