ASME-DLSU holds flagship event on drones and renewable energy

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers – De La Salle University Student Section (ASME-DLSU) conducted “ASMODIUM 2024”, its first flagship event last October 12, 2024, at The Verdure, Henry Sy Sr. Hall, De La Salle University – Manila (DLSU). With over 300 attendees hailing from different schools in Metro Manila such as DLSU, Far Eastern University, Mapúa University, Adamson University, and Ateneo de Manila University, ASMODIUM 2024 provided its audience with a unique opportunity to gain valuable insights from industry experts covering a wide range of topics. Keeping with the theme of ASMODIUM 2024’s tagline, “Building our way to the future, one piece at a time,” the event tackled the following topics: (1) the future of renewable energy in the Philippines, (2) mechanical engineering design in drones, and (3) the role of drones in the maintenance of renewable energy power plants.

The renowned experts invited for ASMODIUM 2024 include Engr. Cris Beo for renewable energy power plants, Engr. Timothy Scott Chu for drones, and Hedcor Group representatives Engr. Glimpse Bagayas and Engr. Alfred Balaga for the role of drones in surveying renewable energy power plants.

This event was made possible through sponsorship with SHELL Pilipinas, Aero PH, Prime Review Center, Aboitiz Power, and FMCS Metalock. The attendees also had a chance to see five drones from DJI Enterprise in Aero PH’s booth, including the DJI Dock 2.

Participants were also given the opportunity to participate in the Drone Simulator challenge, which is an interactive activity that allows participants to get hands-on experience with piloting drones in a simulated environment. Participants were given one minute to pop a balloon with a drone controller, competing for exciting merchandise from ASMODIUM 2024 sponsors such as Prime Review Center books and SHELL Pilipinas notebooks.

With the success of this inaugural event, ASME-DLSU is optimistic to make this flagship event an annual gathering, aiming to expand its reach and impact among engineering students. ASMODIUM 2024 highlights the importance of fostering dialogue and collaboration in addressing the energy challenges of the future, proposing drones as a more efficient means of surveying renewable energy infrastructure.

This event is made possible by ASME DLSU.
