The Ateneo de Manila University and Parenting for Lifelong Health (PLH) Philippines team successfully held an Organized Symposium at the Psychological Association of the Philippines (PAP) 60th Annual Convention on September 28, 2024 in Baguio City.

PAP’s 2023 Outstanding Psychologist Awardee, Dr. Liane Peña Alampay, convened the symposium titled “Investigating Parent-Child Relationships and Their Implications for Parent Support Interventions in the Philippines”, where four key research studies from the MaPA-PLH Philippines were presented:

  • “Exploring Parent-Infant Interactions Among Low-Income Families: Implications for Parenting Interventions” by Katrina Joi Tomo and Dr. Liane Peña Alampay
  • “Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Interventions in the Philippines: A Scoping Review” by Dr. Bernice Vania L. Mamauag and Dominiq Ruth G. Reyes
  • “A Needs Assessment for the Development of the MaPa Program for Teenage Parents Using Photovoice” by Nina Linly D. Capulong; and,
  • “Associations Between Exposure to Intimate Partner Violence, Parenting, and Internalizing Symptoms Among Filipino Adolescents” by Bianca Eloise Agbayani and Dr. Liane Peña Alampay.

The three-day event from September 26 to 28 celebrated “60 Years of Philippine Psychology: Celebrating Glocal Milestones and Navigating Trends in Research and Practice,” bringing together researchers and practitioners to discuss vital topics in parenting and child welfare.

Ateneo de Manila University and PLH Philippines demonstrated their continued commitment to providing evidence-based parenting programs to Filipino families in low-resource settings. As an active participant in the PAP Annual Convention, PLH Philippines furthers its mission of promoting playful positive parenting and reducing violence against children.
