NCT’s Taeyong to enlist in the South Korean Navy this April

NCTzens’ military husband/wife era has finally come.

NCT’s leader Taeyong will soon begin his mandatory military service, according to the announcement made by SM Entertainment on March 18, 2024. He will be the first member of NCT to start his military service.

The statement is as follows (as translated by Soompi):

“Hello. This is SM Entertainment.

NCT’s Taeyong is enlisting in the Navy as an active-duty soldier on April 15.

There will be no official events held on the day he enters the recruit training center, and we ask for your understanding as his enlistment will be held privately to prevent safety incidents due to congestion on site.

Please show continued support and love until the day Taeyong diligently completes his mandatory military service and returns in good health.

Thank you.”

In the same statement, SM Entertainment also confirmed that Taeil, NCT’s oldest member, will also be enlisting in the military this year. Taeil has been in hiatus following a fracture in his right thigh after a car accident in August 2023.

According to South Korean news outlets, Taeyong had been accepted into the Navy military band, where he had competed against 6 others for the vocal position. It was reported that Taeyong had sung one of his solo songs to audition.

Taeyong had debuted as a member of SM Entertainment’s boy group NCT in 2016, and is also a member of its subgroups NCT 127 and NCT U, and the SM Entertainment supergroup SuperM. In 2023, Taeyong debuted as a solo artist with his debut EP, “Shalala” and recently released his 2nd mini album, “TAP” last February 26, 2024.

NCTzens and Tyongfs all expressed their support and messages of encouragement for the NCT leader. Like most K-Pop fans who were sad to see their fave go on hiatus due to an obligation to their country, NCTzens also “despaired” over not seeing Taeyong for 2 years.

The South Korean public and media also applauded Taeyong for having a “strong will” to fulfill his mandatory military service, even if he had sustained a “serious herniated disc” injury in his back in the past.

What do you mean Taeyong’s leaving to serve in the military? He’s served enough.

Jokes aside, please come back healthily and happily, Taeyong!
