Last January 15, Dispatch released a report that the K-drama actress. Park Min Young allegedly received money from her ex-boyfriend, Kang Jong Hyun, when they were in a relationship.
Kang is allegedly linked to gangsters and is facing accusations of embezzling 60 billion KRW (about Php 2.4 billion) from Bithumb, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in Korea. The actress is said to have received 250 million KRW (about Php 10.4 million) from him.
Despite the revelations, not only is the actress facing backlash but also her latest K-drama “Marry My Husband” is facing the full brunt of it all due to her association with Jong Hyun. Upon knowing the situation, some viewers confessed to boycotting the series due to their disagreement with the stance of the actress.
Some of those comments from theqoo translated into English include:
“I’m going to boycott.”
“She returned so quickly after the original controversy, and now look what that has done to the drama.”
“Ah, this is frustrating because the drama is fun. I watched it for Lee Yi Kyung to begin with, but this is so frustrating.”
“This is why I do not watch her drama. I won’t be watching any of her dramas in the future either.”
“Leave the drama industry, LOL.”
“Wow, I am boycotting her drama.”
“This is why I don’t watch Park Min Young’s dramas.”
After the release of alleged evidence gathered by Dispatch, the media outlet reached out to the actress and Kang Jong Hyun hoping that they would confirm the accusations but Kang Jong Hyun declined their call.
Park Min Young’s agency, Hook Entertainment, has released a statement denying the accusations made by Dispatch and asserting the actress’ innocence.
Their statement reads, “Actress Park Min Young was investigated in February 2023 due to the fact that Kang Jong Hyun has used her bank account. Through the investigation, it was proven that she hadn’t done anything illegal and that she had never profited from taking part in something illegal. The ₩250 million KRW reported in the article was used by Park Min-young’s bank account by Kang Jong-hyun.”
“It wasn’t used for the actress’ expenses. Park Min-young has been accused of many things that aren’t true. Still, the actress has accepted the criticism, regrets her past decisions, and is reflecting on her actions. She is focusing on her career, as she feels it is her responsibility as an actor to (make great projects). We hope that the groundless speculation stops and that the defamation no longer continues,” their statement continued.
The actress also took to Instagram to express what she feels about the whole situation. “Sick of it all. But now I believe that the truth always works and I have the heart to guard the bullets. Don’t you worry,” she wrote.
