Another Filipina is set to debut as a K-pop idol soon, and we’ve never been prouder

All K-pop and idol competition show fans know how much of a grueling journey it is for trainees before they even debut as idols. So much so that when your favorite trainee ends up in the show’s final group line-up and is set to debut, you just feel an intense feeling of pride for them.

And right now, the Filipino K-pop community has something to be proud of (apart from being the loudest crowd for some K-pop groups). First, there was Sophia from HYBE and Geffen Records’ survival show “The Debut: Dream Academy,” and now we have Elisia Parmisano from SBS’ “Universe Ticket.”

Elisia Parmisano, one of the Filipina contestants on SBS’ ongoing reality competition series “Universe Ticket,” has just secured her debut in the girl group PRISM, the show’s final group line-up on January 10, 2024.

The 14-year-old individual trainee had just surprised many viewers of the show (and herself) by being the first to ever be confirmed as one of the trainees to debut even before the show’s final episode—making history in the process. No other trainee had reached this feat before, thus making Elisia’s guaranteed spot in the debut line-up all the more monumental.

Her achievements did not just come as a surprise, as veteran K-pop idols such as Girls’ Generation’s Hyoyeon and Kim Sejeong have continuously praised her performances in every episode. Elisia’s rendition of YooA’s “Selfish” at the show’s premiere had stood out the most for many and had secured her spot as a fan favorite.

And her impressive performances from the show didn’t just come out of the blue.

Elisia Parmisano’s journey in the entertainment industry first began in her stint as a child actress in the 2019 Filipino teleserye, “Nang Ngumiti ang Langitm” under ABS-CBN. She even shares her talents in singing and dancing with her cousin Marcus, who had also undergone an idol survival competition show titled “Dream Maker” and debuted as the youngest member of the group HORI7ON under the Korean agency MLD Entertainment.

Not only has Elisia made history, but she and her fellow Filipino contestants Gehlee Danca, Aya Natsumi, and half-Korean and half-Filipino Jin Hyeon-ju, and let’s not forget KATSEYE’s Sophia, had just proven how Filipinas can also showcase their talents in the K-Pop scene.

And honestly? We have never been prouder of our own talents shining abroad. Even Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid and famous actress Marian Rivera had sent their congratulations to the Philippines’ newest pride and honor.
