SM Entertainment’s newest boy group RIIZE makes their debut with ‘Get A Guitar’

“If you want something to play with, get a guitar.”

On September 4, 2023 at 6 P.M. KST, SM Entertainment debuted their newest boy group, RIIZE with their debut single, “Get A Guitar.” They are SM Entertainment’s first rookie group since aespa’s debut in 2020, and the first boy group since NCT’s debut in 2016.

RIIZE, a play on the words “rise” and “realize,” consists of 7 members: Shotaro, Eunseok, Sungchan, Wonbin, Seunghan, Sohee, and Anton that have the ultimate aim of being “a team that grows together and realizes dreams.” It is known that both Shotaro and Sungchan were former members of NCT, having debuted back in 2020 during the full-group promotions for “NCT 2020: RESONANCE.”

The boy group was first announced by SM Entertainment in a press release in July 2023, with the agency stating that RIIZE will be the “first K-pop group to define itself with the genre of ‘emotional pop.” SM Entertainment also described them as “seven top-notch members who have both skills and visuals.”

RIIZE first pre-released their song “Memories” on August 21, 2023, and has garnered 10M views since its MV was released. The lyrics of the track describe their “cherishing the memories of preparing and practicing together while dreaming the same dream.”

The group also made their first international appearance at KCON 2023 in Los Angeles, where they performed “Memories” and “Siren.”

Their official debut single, “Get A Guitar”, is described as a pop song with retro synthesizer sounds and a cool guitar rhythm. The song’s lyrics also show how the members understand each other through music, how they’ve gathered because of the sound of the guitar, and that they will all realize their dreams together.

Surprisingly for a rookie group that’s just about to make their debut, their EP “Get a Guitar” received over 1 million stock pre-orders on Sunday, September 3, 2023.

SUNZ, RIIZE’s fandom (which had been first announced just earlier), was excited and ecstatic about the boy group’s debut track.
