‘Kimi ni Todoke’ to finally get a sequel after 12 years

OG Shoujo anime is definitely so back.

A new sequel to the beloved manga and anime series “Kimi ni Todoke” (From Me To You) by Karuho Shiina has finally been announced yesterday, on September 3, 2023. According to numerous media outlets, Netflix is set to premiere the series’ 3rd season in 2024 worldwide.

Noto Mamiko and Namikawa Daisuke, who played the main characters Kuronuma Sawako and Kazehaya Shōta, are also set to reprise their roles for the newest season. Animation studio Production I.G will also be taking the reins and animating the series once again. Along with the announcement, Production I.G. also released a key visual for the anime’s 3rd season.

“Kimi ni Todoke” is the story of Kuronuma Sawako, who was nicknamed after the titular character of the horror film “The Ring” because of her long black hair and pale skin. She, however, is just a normal high school girl who longs to find friendship. Sawako develops a friendship, and later on a relationship with Kazehaya Shōta, a popular student in their grade who helps her build her confidence in making friends.

Witnesses to their blossoming relationship (and are main characters in their own plotlines) are their friends Yano Ayane, Yoshida Chizuru, Sanada Ryu, Arai Kazuichi (Pin), and Kurumizawa Ume.

Fans of the manga and anime series were elated to finally receive news of the series’ 3rd season after a decade. Other shoujo anime and manga fans also voiced out their hope of other series’ being greenlit for a new season.

Karuho Shiina also celebrated the news of the anime’s 3rd season by posting a celebratory drawing.

Hold on, a nostalgia wave is passing through. *Clears throat* okay, SHOUJO ANIME IS SO BACK.
