Sarah Geronimo’s iconic choreography of ‘Tala’ changes during her 20th anniversary concert

Pop star royalty Sarah Geronimo held her 20th anniversary concert at the Araneta coliseum last Friday, May 12.

Geronimo opened her concert with the song ‘Dati Dati’. She also performed her popular song ‘Sa Iyo’ and had a duet with Asia’s songbird, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid.

During the concert, however, the popstar royalty performed her iconic song ‘Tala’ in new dance steps. In the new dance steps, the song was performed at a much faster pace compared to the original.

Nica Del Rosario and Emmanuel Sambayan wrote the popular song. ‘Tala’ (star) was released in 2015 and became more popular in the years that followed.

G-Force, the dance group that has been working with Geronimo for many years, was evidently absent during the anniversary concert. They are also the group that choreographed the original moves of the popular hit song.

The concert was not the first time the popstar royalty performed ‘Tala’ in new steps. During the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup draw on April 29, Geronimo did not perform the original dance moves of the song as well. She also had different backup dancers during the performance and not the G-Force.

After the anniversary concert, there were rumors that the popstar royalty has not been on good terms with Georcelle Dapat-Sy, the creative director of the famous dance group. The rumors were later clarified in the vlog of talent manager Ogie Diaz.

Based on the vlog, Dapat-Sy wanted Geronimo to exercise her artistic freedom as the singer wants to try different things. The creative director also refuted the claims that she demanded the popstar royalty to pay at least P150,000 if her choreography would be performed in the concert.

Aside from ‘Tala’, Geronimo is known for a lot of songs like ‘Forever’s not enough,’ ‘Maybe this time,’ ‘Kilometro,’ and many popular Filipino songs.
