MediSEEN 20/20: The 7th Annual MDTalk of UP Health Sciences and Pre-Medicine Society

The COVID-19 pandemic evidently brought to light our unsung heroes – our frontliners, doctors, and healthcare workers. Every day, we see and hear stories of their selflessness, dedication, and perseverance to be of aid to the public. Indeed, we celebrate them and thank them for their service. Furthermore, there are also some who are brave enough to be just like them; those whose passion and purpose are to put themselves in so many years of schooling so that they too, can be able to treat and relieve others of their ailments. Are you one of them? Are you passionate about pursuing medicine? Do you need to know more about medical schools? If you answered yes, you are definitely on the right article!

One of the main flagship projects of the UP Health Sciences and Pre-Medicine Society is their annual MD Talk that aims to help students choose the medical school best fitted to their standards and abilities. Bounded by the four sets of core values (camaraderie, compassion & service, empowerment, and holistic excellence), they strive to promote zeal and vehemence in the pre-medical services, fostering the passion of their members to pursue medicine and guide their entry to world-class medical schools. Additionally, the organization decided to step up their game this year to gear the event towards not only producing full-fledged medical doctors by helping them choose the best school for medicine, but also by further igniting their compassion towards public service by allowing them to see a glimpse of what’s happening today in the field, further inculcating the ultimate need of our country for greater health workforce and professionals. Indeed, talk about relevance!

The event will be a three-day webinar series via Zoom and will be livestreamed on their Facebook page from September 11 to 13, 2020 (Friday at 6:00 pm; Saturday and Sunday at 4:00PM). MediSeen:20/20: The 7th Annual MedTalk (Where do you envision yourself taking Medicine?) of UP HS+PM Soc is sponsored by LearnFast Review and Tutorial Hub and is partnered with by more than 20 organizations. What is even more exciting is there will be raffles throughout the event, which are sponsored by Peculiar Eyewear, Succ.Seed, and FanshackPH! Most importantly, medicine schools who will be present at the event include: University of the Philippines – College of Medicine, De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute, St. Luke’s College of Medicine – William H. Quasha Memorial, Far Eastern University – Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation, Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health, West Visayas State University, Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan, University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, and San Beda University – College of Medicine. Take note that there’s more to come in the following days!

But wait, the fun and anticipation do not stop there! The event will also be graced by notable keynote speakers: Anthony “Tony” C. Leachon, MD, FPCP, FACP, Former Special Adviser to the National Action Plan (NAP) and COVID-19 Chief Implementer; Jason V. Alacapa, MD, MBA, MPH, MHM, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Innovations for Community Health, and metaHealth Insights and Innovations; and last but definitely not the least, Maria Leonor “Leni” G. Robredo, Vice-President of the Republic of the Philippines herself. If you were not able to pre-register for the event, don’t fret because you can watch it live on their official Facebook page: facebook.com/UPHSPM. Make sure to follow them as well for more exciting news and updates. See you there, future doctor!
