While the official cause of her death has not been made public, Kimura is said to have died from an apparent suicide last May 23.

“We would like to express our sincere condolences for the death of Hana Kimura, who appeared on the program. We also deeply mourn the bereaved families.

“Regarding ‘TERRACE HOUSE TOKYO 2019-2020,” we have decided to cancel the production.

“We take this issue very seriously and would like to continue to earnestly respond to it,” the statement from Japanese broadcaster, Fuji Television, said.

Prior to her death, Kimura was subjected to several months of cyber bullying after a disagreement with a fellow Terrace House cast member.

Her unexpected death ignited a public outcry for cyber bullying all over Japan, which led Japanese lawmakers to announce that they will create new legislation focused on cyber abuse.
