K-Pop company is on the search for new idols, opens online audition for everyone

As many of us already know, K-Pop music has become a global sensation. Its catchy tunes, colorful music videos, and iconic dance choreography have attracted music lovers from all over the world–making it an international phenomenon in the entertainment industry.  But becoming an idol is not easy. It requires the artist to make major sacrifices such as long periods of training and cutting off your social life to keep a low profile.

Despite these hardships, there are still a lot of hopeful artists (especially foreigners) who dream of becoming the next K-Pop idol since non-Korean artists such as Lisa from BlackPink (Thailand), Tzuyu from TWICE (Taiwan), and Jackson from GOT7 (Hong Kong) rose to fame.

What do you need to know about the K-Pop auditions?
Aside from having an ‘attractive’ face, entering the K-Pop industry requires applicants to have above-average dancing and singing abilities. And speaking Korean fluently is not really required, but it is recommended to learn some words to help during interviews.

More importantly, South Korea’s entertainment industry is very strict about maintaining a certain weight, specifically, its stars should not weigh not more 50 kgs (11o lbs).

SM Entertainment is searching for new talents through online auditions
Last May 5, K-Pop powerhouse, SM Entertainment, opened an online audition for anyone who would like to apply to be the next idol. This audition is open to everyone regardless of gender, race, and ethnicity.

For those who want to apply, you will need to send in photos and videos of yourself showcasing your talent in music. The qualified applicants should range from 10 to 20 years old only.
