With a whopping 5 billion videos being watched on YouTube daily, have you ever wondered which video was first uploaded to the said platform? Just like Twitter’s first tweet, which was sent 14 years ago, we also had to dig into the abyss to find out YouTube’s first-ever content.
Before the likes of T-Series and PewDiePie dominated YouTube, Jawed Karim was the first person to ever post his video to the online service. Aside from the fact that he had decent internet and camera back then, he was also one of the founders of YouTube. Safe to assume that, maybe, his team was just “testing the waters” before letting the whole world see it.
Reported by Unilad, the 15-year-old video was uploaded on April 23, 2005. In the said clip, titled Me at the zoo, Karim can be seen awkwardly standing in front of the camera–almost like he was some sort of vlogger.
“Alright, so here we are in front of the elephants. The cool thing about these guys is that they have really, really, really long trunks and that’s cool. And that’s pretty much all there is to say,” he said in the 18-second clip.
After a year of trial and error, his team finally decided to present and sell the website to Google for $1.65 billion. Since then, it has become one of the most popular and biggest social media platforms out there, with a total of 1.8 billion logged-in users every month.
