Millennials admit to buying cheap tickets despite coronavirus outbreak

Last night, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte announced the travel restrictions for countries with localized COVID-19 transmissions. With this, a lot of people rescheduled or canceled their travel plans due to the spread of the disease in different parts of the world. But the pandemic outbreak didn’t stop some airlines and travel agencies from imposing promo flights and discounted travel packages.

Some “Millenials” or the younger generation took advantage of the cheap airfare promos to select locations or destinations. For instance, the lowest travel price offered from Manila to Japan only costs Php 4,000 to Php 7,000 compared to its regular price, which is around Php 8,000 to Php 14,000.

In an interview with NBC News, a 20-year-old college student availed this “once-in-a-lifetime” promo and even went to not one but three destinations including Vancouver, New York City, and Portland, Oregon. The young woman mentioned that she’d rather “have fun” than not do anything since the virus would likely kill more people from this point forward.

It is important to live the way you want but for now, everyone should do his or her role in protecting the community. This can be achieved by staying healthy and practicing good hygiene every day.
