Siargao Secures Future of Surfing During the Awarding Ceremony

The Awarding Ceremony of the 21st National Siargao Surfing Cup was held in the Boulevard in General Luna. All thanks to our sponsor, Vans Philippines, the ceremony was off to a great start by raffling off some goodies.

This year’s competition has been a tribute to Mayor Jaime P. Rusillon, a great supporter of surfing in his hometown and in the country as well, who passed away last April. Mayor Rusillon is, considered to be the godfather of surfing in the Philippines, along with his wife and acting mayor, Cecilia Rusillon, who have always put all the efforts in making Siargao a surf paradise known worldwide.

Mayor Cecilia Rusillon, called on stage the members of the Philippine Surfing Team to congratulate and recognize them on their recent trip to Japan where they represented our nation in the ISA World Surfing Games. Out of the seven athletes who competed in Japan, four are from Siargao: Edito “Piso” Alcala, Eduardo Alciso, John Mark Tokong and Ana Mae Alipayo. “Congratulations on your achievements and for representing our country in Japan. We will continue to support you and the surf in Siargao”, expressed the Mayor.

PSCT judges also handed a high performance award to two surfers who have shown an outstanding improvement and commitment throughout the entire leg. The winners of this award presented by Maui and Sons, one of our major sponsors, was given to Daniel Nogalo, from Juniors Division, and to Kent Brian Solloso, from Men’s Open.
