Anna Akana brings her comedic charms to the Philippines with ‘It Gets Darker’ tour

Anna Akana successfully concluded her debut stand-up comedy show ‘It Gets Darker’ in the Philippines last February 16 at the Samsung Hall, SM Aura in BGC. Akana’s Manila stop for her tour shared that this was one of her biggest shows yet.

Internet personality and comedian Baus Rufo warmed up the audience as the show’s opening act. Rufo’s number stirred laughter in the audience for his quips and stories about him being a queer comedian as well as relatable millennial traits and stories which resonated well with the crowd.

Once Akana entered the spotlight, the comedian surely knew how to draw out laughter from the audience with comedic jabs close to Filipinos’ real-life situations. She engaged the Filipino crowd with humor, including jokes about the country’s controversial politicians.?

The comedian further charmed the audience as she stepped off the stage and had a close interaction with them with her hilarious motorboat stunt, to which some of the crowd willingly hopped on.

Akana also took the time to get personal with the crowd when she opened up that she had to take a break from stand-up comedy due to a stalker. She recalled that Los Angeles police took four hours to respond to several 911 calls she made regarding the intrusive incident.

Not only is the show merely about comedy, but it was Akana’s moment to bring about her advocacy against suicide and personal stories following the passing of her sister. It could be recalled that Akana authored and published a book back in 2017, ‘Much I Want to Tell You: Letters to My Little Sister,’ where she narrated her struggles following the loss of her sister and her rise to fame as a celebrity.

The show was perhaps Akana’s homecoming as her mother was of Filipino descent. It is beautifully fated that she had one of her biggest shows yet in her home country. Akana’s comedic charms and personal stories resonated well with the Filipino audience and left them with much anticipation for her return to the country.

In her Facebook post caption, Akana expressed her gratitude to her Filipino fans and followers, “Thank you to all 800 of you who came out for my first show in the Philippines! Maraming salamat po [Thank you so much].” In the same post, Akana also shared a few snaps of her and her family on a gondola ride from a local mall. With her short visit, Akana surely had a good time in the country.
